LA Courts Halted by Ransomware

Los Angeles County Superior Court, the largest trial court in America, shut down all 36 courthouses following a severe ransomware attack. The attack, which occurred on Friday, rendered every electronic platform containing court data and all internet-connected devices inoperable. Since the attack, court employees and cybersecurity experts have been tirelessly working to restore servers and databases. However, obstacles have prevented the resumption of court proceedings, leading to the unprecedented closure of all court locations on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Presiding Judge Samantha P. Jessner emphasized the need to shut down all network systems to contain the damage, protect information, and ensure future network stability. While the Court moves towards restoration, many critical systems remained offline as of Sunday evening. The Court anticipates reopening on Tuesday, allowing additional time for experts to bring systems back online safely. Officials confirmed the network disruption is unrelated to the recent global CrowdStrike issue.
